I am pleased to announce that Helen Yung has been appointed as the university’s new Comptroller, effective June 12, 2023.
Helen joins UBC from Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCH), where she has served as a senior finance leader for over 20 years, most recently as Executive Director, Controller and Financial Services. Over the course of her career Helen has led all aspects of financial management for VCH, including overseeing the controllership function as well as an annual operating budget of over $5 billion. As UBC’s new Comptroller she will be responsible for ensuring the university's financial sustainability by delivering intelligence, planning, and reporting to facilitate decision making.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Matt Boydston, who volunteered to serve in this important role for the last six months through the duration of the search process. His technical expertise, commitment to the university, and kind and thoughtful approach have earned him the respect of our partners and colleagues across UBC. Please join me in thanking him for stepping up into this role.
I would also like to thank the search committee, including representatives from the university Executive, as well as student, faculty, and staff leadership across UBC, who participated in the search process.
Please join me in welcoming Helen to UBC.
Frank Laezza
Vice-President, Finance & Operations
