Dear colleagues,
Thank you to those that attended the recent Heads-Up Forum on June 22 and for sharing your ideas and concerns during the breakout sessions. In reviewing that feedback, some themes and questions emerged around remote work that we want to highlight. We continue to work towards finding a consistent and appropriate process that addresses not only these types of questions, but also any concerns that may arise.
It’s important that we all understand that specific circumstances of an individual and those of the unit in which they work for are unique. But we all share a commonality — we are all doing our best to find solutions that work for as many individuals as possible, while prioritizing the culture of in-person collaboration, interactions and engagement at UBC, which is a strategic priority. Remote work is optional for employees and one of the guiding principles remains that work arrangements need to support the successful delivery of services as the first priority.
It may take some time before many of these issues are resolved and they may not be resolved in a way that works for everyone and the University. Regardless, we’ll need to address them over the coming months with patience, collaboration and adaptability — something our campus has fully embraced during the pandemic.
