New funding creates more child-care spaces at UBC Okanagan

March 2, 2021

A message from Lesley Cormack, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal, UBC Okanagan; Lesley Lutes, President, University Children’s Learning Centre Board of Directors, Professor of Psychology, UBC Okanagan

Dear colleagues,

We are very pleased to let you know that our campus has been selected as one of the child-care providers that will benefit from funding announced today from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

We know that providing a welcoming environment where children can learn and grow is critical for the well-being of our campus community and helps parents focus on their studies and their work. It is also important in supporting equity, diversity and inclusion at UBC Okanagan as underrepresented groups, especially women, are disproportionally affected by access to quality and affordable childcare.

We are excited to share this news and to celebrate the second partnership funding success in the past two years—the first having helped expand and update the daycare facilities over the course of 2020.
