A message from Ananya Mukherjee Reed, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Okanagan
Dear colleagues,
As you may recall, in November 2020 the Okanagan Senate made the decision to temporarily extend the start of the January 2021 Winter Term 2 by one week, in an effort to support our community’s mental and physical well-being.
That change was widely supported by students, faculty and staff alike.
In light of that success, the Okanagan Senate decided last week to make the delayed start to Winter Term 2 permanent. In most cases, Winter Term 2 will now start on the second Monday of January. In some cases, it may start mid-week so as to maintain the minimum number of 60 teaching days required in each Winter Term.
The senate has also agreed to introduce a full-week reading break in November, an increase from the previous two days. This change will be effective for fall reading week in November 2021 and will fall within the week of the November 11 statutory holiday or the UBC holiday in lieu.
