UBC sets target to reduce emissions by 2030
March 23, 2021
In December 2019, UBC declared a climate emergency and has since committed to taking bold steps to address the climate crisis. UBC has always been in the forefront of responding to community priorities, and has been active in the climate action space since over a decade. The Climate Action Plan 2030 (CAP 2030) is another step towards advancing efforts to tackle climate change at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan.
CAP 2030 is an initiative aimed at implementing strategies that will accelerate the reduction of emissions from UBC’s core operations and our day-to-day activities outside of work by 2030, through clean energy solutions and energy-efficient technologies.
UBC is getting ready to kick off a three-week university-wide engagement process on CAP 2030. To explain what it’s all about, John Madden, Director of Sustainability and Engineering, Campus and Community Planning, explains why we need CAP 2030, what it means for you and why it needs your voice.
