A message from Ananya Mukherjee Reed, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Okanagan
Dear colleagues,
Over the summer and again this fall, President Ono committed our institution to addressing racism and injustice.
As part of this work, our campus has established a public forum on systemic racism, which began with the Different Together webinar in June 2020. These discussions have gained recognition beyond UBC and our campus is quickly evolving into a space for bold discussions. You can find the full recordings here.
In the coming weeks, we will continue the conversation with two key events in which I encourage our campus community to participate.

Major institutions and actors involved in the pursuit of scientific scholarship have responded to discussions about racism in different ways. The editors of Nature, one of the most prestigious journals in the sciences, have released this powerful statement and NSERC, Canada’s largest supporter of discovery and innovation, has made its own statement on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Both institutions recognize the role they could have in putting an end to racism and bias in the sciences and have made commitments to the same.
