A message from Ananya Mukherjee Reed, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Okanagan
Dear colleagues,
This fall, we have seen significant changes on campus, most notably the return of in-person instruction and work for many units. It has been such a joy to meet colleagues and students in person—some of them for the first time ever. I am heartened by the renewed energy and excitement in our campus community and the great care being shown to one another as we continue to navigate change and uncertainty. Many of you have shared your successes, feedback and challenges with us, and I want to thank you all for your contributions and resilience.
September marked several important milestones for both our campus and country, as we recognized Orange Shirt Day and the first-ever National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. On our campus, you may have noticed the installation of beautiful orange banners—an installation done in partnership with the Okanagan National Alliance with artist Billie Kruger to mark these two important days. I encourage you to learn more about the imagery and artist, as well as UBC’s commitments to advancing Indigenous human rights through truth and reconciliation on the new Orange Shirt Day webpage.
