Remote Work Update
This message was sent to executive, deans and other senior academic leaders, academic heads, directors and managers, and senior professional leaders in Vancouver and the Okanagan.
October 14, 2021
As you are aware, in June of this year the university released our institutional approach to remote work. Thank you for your support in rolling out this program across both campuses. You can review the institutional strategy, objectives, principles, and HR guidelines at https://hr.ubc.ca/remote-work-ubc.
As we continue the transition to increased on-campus activity, we are also welcoming many staff back to campus with new, hybrid work arrangements as determined by the operational needs of each Faculty and Administrative Unit. As a reminder, please continue to work with your teams to ensure the following before November 1, 2021:
- Staff with approved remote work arrangements are required to document this through individual remote work agreements in Workday, which includes completing a remote work safety assessment.
- Prior to returning to campus, everyone is required to complete the UBC Go Forward COVID-19 Safety Planning Training. You can access training for each campus at https://wpl.ubc.ca.
- Please ensure that all technology requirements are in place for a successful hybrid work arrangement, if appropriate. It is important to work with UBC IT or your local IT team to identify your requirements and ensure that all equipment has the capability to be encrypted in accordance with security standards. Although there are currently some global supply issues, UBC IT can work with your team to source interim solutions. For more information visit https://it.ubc.ca/news/update-global-it-equipment-delay.
- Please encourage discussions within your team to establish norms and best practices within this new hybrid work model.
The health, safety and wellbeing of faculty and staff remain a priority, and we continue to encourage you to access all necessary supports, available at https://hr.ubc.ca/health-and-wellbeing/mental-health. For additional guidance, please reach out to your HR Advisor.
This first year of our remote work program aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a hybrid work model and any potential impacts on our academic mission, student and workplace experiences. We are hopeful that through a positive experience we will continue to move forward.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
