September 25, 2023
Faculty and staff at UBC Vancouver are invited to submit proposals for grants that support the use of open educational resources (OER) in UBC credit courses.
OER are teaching and learning materials that are openly licensed to permit free access as well as adaptation and sharing. Since 2019, UBC has provided over $825,000 in OER grant funding for 79 projects across nine Faculties. There are two grant pathways:
OER Affordability Grants
These are grants of up to $25,000 for UBC Vancouver faculty who wish to incorporate open educational resources as the required materials into their credit courses. The application deadline is 3pm on January 18, 2024. You can find more information here.
OER Rapid Innovation Grants
These are grants of up to $2,000, which are available to UBC Vancouver faculty, students and staff, for innovative activities that increase open educational resource development, awareness and capacity building. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the year’s funds are exhausted. More details are available here.
To learn more about the fund, please visit the Open Educational Resource Fund website. There will be a general information session on October 18, 2023, as well as weekly drop-in grant proposal consultation sessions and OER accessibility studios from September 26, 2023, to January 17, 2024. You can register for these sessions here.
