Redefining the undergraduate learning experience in Creative Writing
Before the start of the project, Sara Graefe, lecturer in Playwriting and Screenwriting in the School of Creative Writing, was teaching a three-hour course every Friday afternoon in a large lecture hall. “I would usually have a lecture on a topic, then we would often screen short films in class, do some writing exercises, then a bit more lecture,” she remembers. However, Sara admits that the time and format of her course did not resonate well. “Students hated the three hours at the end of a long week; I hated the three hours. It was really a challenge to keep students engaged.”

UBC Library rethinks problematic Indigenous representations in children’s literature
What do you do with problematic materials in a library collection—with books that are outdated, that perpetuate stereotypes, depict cultural appropriation, or include racism and other harmful elements? This was the question faced by librarians at UBC Vancouver’s Education Library, Xwi7xwa Library and UBC Okanagan (UBCO) Library, who found a way to contextualize problematic books from the children’s picture book collections.

Large TLEF Transformation funding: Special call for hybrid and multi-access course redesign projects
Faculty members at UBC Vancouver are invited to submit letters of intent (LOI) for Large Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) Transformation projects. The 2023/24 Large TLEF funding round is a special call to academic units interested in hybrid and multi-access course redesign projects. The LOI submission deadline is 3pm on July 14, 2022.
