    Consideration of the reappointment of UBC Chancellor

    A message from Ross Langford, Chair, Chancellor Reappointment Committee; Fred Withers, Chair, alumni UBC Board of Directors Please note: This message is sent on behalf of the UBC Alumni Association (alumni UBC). The Honourable Steven Lewis Point was appointed UBC Chancellor in July 2020. As he approaches the end of his first three-year term, he is now being considered for reappointment.

    Gino DiLabio

    Gino DiLabio is the inaugural Dean of the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science at UBC Okanagan and started his role in September 2020.  In 2014, Dean DiLabio joined UBC Okanagan as Head of the Department of Chemistry. At the end of his term, he served as Dean pro tem for the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences. Prior to joining UBC, he worked at the National Research Council of Canada’s Steacie Institute for Molecular Science and National Institute for Nanotechnology.  A researcher at heart, Dean DiLabio's research interests are primarily focused on the development and application of new computational chemistry methods. He earned his degrees from Carleton University in Ottawa and Clarkson University in New York. Dean DiLabio appreciates a good sense of humour and the ability to look at the lighter side of things in life. Outside of work, he enjoys biking, donning the chef’s hat, and singing – especially at family get togethers.

    Celebrating UBC Vancouver's longest-serving staff

    The 25 Year Club was established in 1971 by President Walter Gage to recognize the contributions of staff. The annual celebration recognizes staff who have reached this major 25-year milestone, and also honours those with 35, 40 and 50 years of service.

    Call for nominations for representatives to the Board of Governors and Senates

    A message from Kate Ross, Associate Vice-President, Enrolment Services and Registrar As you may be aware, throughout the last year of each triennium, the university embarks on a series of elections for representatives to the Board of Governors and the Okanagan and Vancouver Senates for the upcoming three-year term. At this time, the first round of elections for the 2023 — 2026 triennium is underway with opportunities for faculty and staff to get involved.

    Robert Helsley appointed as Associate Provost, UBC at Surrey

    Last year, UBC announced that it is expanding its presence in Surrey to build the university’s regional presence, as well as improve access to post-secondary education in the Fraser region. I am pleased to announce that Dr. Robert W. Helsley has been appointed as Associate Provost for the UBC at Surrey project, effective October 1, 2022 for a two-year term.  Dr. Helsley is the Grosvenor Professor of Cities, Business Economics and Public Policy at UBC Sauder School of Business where he has served as Dean from 2012 to 2022.
