    A message from Lesley Cormack, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal, UBC Okanagan Dear colleagues, As Asian Heritage Month draws to a close, I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to recognize the many achievements and contributions of Canadians of Asian descent and to explore the rich diversity of Asian heritage in our country. Many of these cultures are part of our campus community, bringing together unique perspectives and lived experiences that elevate the way we teach, learn and research.

    Activate Inclusion: Apply for the Equity Enhancement Fund by May 31

    The Activate Inclusion: Equity Enhancement Fund provides up to $15,000 in funding (per proposal) for community-based, collaborative projects designed to advance one or more of the actions outlined under the goals of Building Inclusive UBC: An Inclusion Action Plan.

    Share your voice through the Research Data, Software, and Computational Needs Assessment Survey

    Do you use data, software or digital and computational resources in your research? UBC Advanced Research Computing and UBC Library invite researchers to participate in a 3-5 minute confidential survey to help identify gaps in support services, improve offerings and develop new initiatives.  Researchers are invited to complete the Research Data, Software, and Computational Needs Assessment Survey by June 11, 2021.

    Karamjeet Heer

    As UBC’s Comptroller, Karamjeet Heer is responsible for ensuring the university’s fiscal sustainability by providing financial intelligence and strategy. A key leader within UBC’s VP Finance & Operations (VPFO) portfolio, Karamjeet oversees UBC’s budgeting and planning activities, which coordinate over $3.1B in total annual spending. She is also responsible for the delivery of financial reporting and analysis (including UBC’s annual audited financial statements) for the campus community, UBC’s Board of Governors, government, and external stakeholders. She and her team engage with Faculties and administrative units across the university to deliver financial support and guidance, and ensure alignment in UBC’s financial approach. Building on 20 years as a senior financial leader, Karamjeet brings a service-centric philosophy and strong commitment to relationship-building. By engaging in close partnerships, she supports the development and delivery of operational excellence and financial accountability for UBC.

    UBC’s spring graduation ceremonies

    On June 2, UBC is hosting its spring virtual graduation for Vancouver and the Okanagan. Watch the Vancouver livestream at 9:30am PDT and the Okanagan livestream at 2:30pm PDT. This virtual ceremony celebrates the very real accomplishments of UBC graduates. While we may not be gathering in person, we stand with our graduates in spirit, take pride in their achievements and share their joy.
