UBC sets target to reduce emissions by 2030
In December 2019, UBC declared a climate emergency and has since committed to taking bold steps to address the climate crisis. UBC has always been in the forefront of responding to community priorities, and has been active in the climate action space since over a decade. The Climate Action Plan 2030 (CAP 2030) is another step towards advancing efforts to tackle climate change at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan.

A deep dive: Dr. Sumaila on sustainable ocean management in global partnership
When Dr. Ussif Rashid Sumaila was a boy, running and playing with other kids around his home in Nigeria, his grandfather would say, “Children, why are you hitting the ground so hard? You should walk on the earth as if it feels pain.” Only later did Dr. Sumaila begin to understand that his grandfather was, in fact, espousing sophisticated environmentalism.
