Can your breath be used to detect lung cancer?
Killing more people every year than breast, colon and cervical cancer combined, lung cancer is the most-deadly form of cancer globally.Currently detected using an imaging test, such as a CT scan, lung cancer is typically confirmed by biopsy — whereby a sample of tissue or fluid from around a patient’s lungs is carefully extracted and examined under a microscope.But what if the world’s deadliest cancer could be quickly and easily detected using something as simple, and painless as a breath test?

2024 University Killam Professors competition – call for nominations
The biennial University Killam Professor competition is open for the nomination of exceptional faculty members who are extraordinary teachers and researchers, leaders in their academic fields, and have received national and international recognition.A maximum of three professors may be appointed during each competition cycle. It is the highest honour that the University can confer on a faculty member. University Killam Professors are expected to contribute to the overall intellectual life of the university and to serve as academic ambassadors to UBC’s external community.
