Art in the streets
When it comes to fine arts, it’s not as instinctive to think about “fieldwork.” But for a number of UBC Okanagan Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) students, the empty building faces of downtown Kelowna are fast becoming a welcoming mural canvas outside of the classroom.

Brushstrokes of Resilience: Insights from Every Child Matters book illustrator Karlene Harvey
When you hear the phrase “Every Child Matters” what comes to mind? According to the illustrator of the new Every Child Matters picture book, Karlene Harvey, “Every Child Matters empowers residential school survivors to speak about their childhood, and to acknowledge their experiences on their own terms, which is extremely validating and important. UBC research aims to close the gap in Alzheimer’s research
While people of Asian ancestry make up more than 16 per cent of Canada’s population, they’ve been vastly underrepresented in Alzheimer’s research to date, comprising less than 3 per cent of participants in clinical trials and national data sets. UBC researchers are working to close that gap. Hear from Dr. Robin Hsiung, an associate professor of neurology and researcher at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, who explains the importance of addressing racial inequities in Alzheimer’s research to improve Alzheimer’s care for Asian Canadians.
