In an effort to ensure UBC is compliant with required training, staff and student employees will begin receiving reminders through Workday. Please keep an eye out for this new notification and ensure you have completed the most up-to-date version of any required training. Rehan Sadiq
Dr. Rehan Sadiq is Provost and Vice-President, Academic, at UBC Okanagan. He was appointed to this role in August 2022. In addition to his role as Provost and Vice-President, Academic, Dr. Sadiq is a professor of Civil Engineering and a Distinguished University Scholar. He is also a co-lead of the Life Cycle Management Laboratory in the School of Engineering in the Okanagan. Previously, he served as the Executive Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Co-director of the Digital Learning Factory Initiative at UBC Okanagan. Dr. Sadiq’s research focuses on the areas of asset management of water supply systems, environmental risk analysis and lifecycle assessment of the built environment. Outside of work, he enjoys going on road trips with his family, reading a broad range of books, and taking long walks or hikes whenever he gets a chance.

Invitation to join UBC’s Accessibility Committee
UBC is taking steps to establish an Accessibility Committee to support disability inclusion and guide future direction at the university. Students, staff, and faculty are invited to apply to serve on the inaugural committee. The committee will be tasked with providing ongoing guidance and advice to the university on the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to accessibility and to help fulfill the university’s legal obligations and commitments to disability inclusion and justice principles.

Finding new life for plastic waste
From bottles and straws, toys and Tupperware to medical stents, eyewear and even tea bags, plastic is everywhere in our society. Although the meteoric rise of plastic was the result of its economy and ease of production, the question now is, what do we do with the estimated 380 million tonnes of plastic waste produced globally each year? This problem was something UBC Okanagan’s Dr. Mohammad Arjmand knew he could help solve with the varied expertise and state-of-the-art plastic processing equipment available at the university.
